Frequently Asked Questions about BRAVECTO QUANTUM

Safety

WHY IS THE PRODUCT ONLY INDICATED FOR DOGS FROM 6 MONTHS OF AGE?

Due to the possibility of fast-growing puppies outgrowing the dose, the product was developed for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older.1

HOW DO I KNOW THAT BRAVECTO QUANTUM IS SAFE FOR MY PATIENTS?

A margin of safety study was performed and demonstrated safety at doses of 1X (15mg/kg), 3X (45mg/kg), and 5X (75mg/kg) administered every 4 months for a total of 6 doses.2 The most commonly reported adverse reactions in a US field study included lethargy, decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes and pruritus.

Concurrent administration

CAN THE PRODUCT BE ADMINISTERED AT THE SAME TIME AS VACCINES?

In a well-controlled field study, BRAVECTO QUANTUM was used concurrently with other medications, such as vaccines, anthelmintics, antibiotics (including topical), steroids, analgesics, and anesthetics. No adverse reactions were observed from the concurrent use of BRAVECTO QUANTUM with other medications.1

Dosing

WHY IS AN 18 G NEEDLE REQUIRED FOR ADMINISTRATION?

The formulation is a suspension containing fluralaner powder, and an 18 G needle is required to ensure the suspension is accurately transferred from the vial into the syringe and from the syringe into the patient. Shake the fluralaner powder vial thoroughly.

HOW MUCH VOLUME IS GIVEN PER DOG?

Dogs should be dosed at 0.1 mL per kg (.045 mL per lb) of body weight. Dogs weighing 10 kg (22 lbs) should be injected with 1.0 mL; dogs weighing 15 kg (33 lbs) should be injected with 1.5 mL, etc.

WHEN CAN DOGS START BRAVECTO QUANTUM?

Because the efficacy is sustained for an entire year following administration, dogs can be treated whenever they are unprotected against fleas and ticks. Dogs will not require another dose of flea and tick treatment for 12 months for the indicated parasites.1

BRAVECTO QUANTUM kills adult fleas, prevents flea infestations and treats and controls ticks (black-legged tick, American dog tick, brown dog tick, Asian longhorned tick and Gulf Coast tick) for 12 months. BRAVECTO QUANTUM also kills lone star ticks for 8 months. BRAVECTO QUANTUM should be administered every 8 months in the case of potential exposure to Amblyomma americanum ticks.

HOW SOON MUST THE PRODUCT BE USED AFTER IT IS MIXED, AND HOW MUST IT BE STORED?

Before every use, shake the constituted vial vigorously for 30 seconds to achieve a uniform suspension prior to drawing up a dose. The product should be administered within 2 minutes of being drawn into the syringe. Discard vial 3 months after first puncture.

What is the frequency of treatment?

BRAVECTO QUANTUM should be administered as a single subcutaneous dose every 12 months. BRAVECTO QUANTUM should be administered every 8 months in the case of potential exposure to Amblyomma americanum (lone start tick).

General Product Information

WHY IS ONE VIAL DARK IN COLOR AND THE OTHER IS COLORLESS?

The sterilization process used for the powder causes the glass to darken in color, which is not the case for the process used to sterilize the liquid vehicle.

WHERE IS THE PRODUCT MANUFACTURED?

The product is manufactured in Germany.

HOW DO I ORDER THE PRODUCT?

BRAVECTO QUANTUM is offered directly through the Merck Animal Health online ordering platform, eShop. Please reach out to your Merck Animal Health Outside or Inside Sales Representative to learn how to access the platform.
